A Great Folk Song
In one of the early chapters of the book I’m continuing to write, I had described two maidens and three knights around a table. Upon rereading the chapter, I decided it could make a great folk song and hastily wrote a few lyrics.
In a bustling tavern sat,
Two maidens fair, where they had chat,
Three knights came riding, cloaks of night,
Eyes alight, hearts light, seeking delight!
Ho! To the dance, swing and twirl,
For every lad and every girl,
With a laugh and a jest, they all confess,
In the night, who courts, who dares!
First knight bold, with a rose in hand,
Offered it with a gesture grand,
The second with a song did charm,
The third stood silent, arm in arm.
Ho! To the dance, swing and twirl,
For every lad and every girl,
With a laugh and a jest, they all confess,
In the night, who loves, who jests!
Maidens laughed, their cheeks aglow,
Choosing which knight would suit them so,
But as the night grew old and deep,
Found all three knights fit to keep!
Ho! To the dance, swing and twirl,
For every lad and every girl,
With a cheer and a song, all night long,
In the heart, where love belongs!
